The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) is a high school program funded by the U.S. military branches with assistance from the school districts, private citizens and community organizations like Navy League. This means, it's free for cadets.
The experiences and skills will be used to stay on track for graduation and will be carried over to help make for successful adulthood. |

The biggest benefit of participating in JROTC is that it teaches valuable life skills that many kids won't otherwise have emphasized to them.
Life skills like:
Another huge benefit to joining JROTC is cadets can take full advantage of various scholarships to cover the cost of college.
There are two main ways JROTC can help you pay for higher education:
|
|
School-Specific Scholarships
JROTC cadets can start applying for and earning school-specific scholarships as early as freshman year. These scholarships vary from school to school from lump sums of money to the entire education. Students and Cadets have an advantage over other college applicants because they are not barred from receiving outside scholarships and even though they receive a school specific JROTC scholarship there is no military service requirement.
ROTC Scholarships
ROTC also offers tuition assistance. These scholarships are awarded by the military branch of the ROTC, which means they’re not restricted to a specific ROTC unit or college. There is a military service requirement upon completion of the program.

Although not a requirement, JROTC is a stepping stone to the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC); a military program meant to play a vital role in developing the discipline, leadership and knowledge to be successful in the Navy or Marine Corps. In exchange for a paid college education and guaranteed post-college career, participants (or cadets) commit to serve in the U.S. military after graduation as a commissioned officer.
ROTC is offered at many colleges and universities across the United States. To learn about Austin, Texas' very own UT Austin Naval ROTC program click here. |
